Sausage, Cream cheese, and Crescent Roll Breakfast bake

Sausage and Cheese Crescent Squares Recipe
Picture and original recipe from here.

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a fantastic weekend! Ours was...well...busy! I am in serious need of a different word! Hectic, crazy, full... But we got are still moving forward on getting wedding things done. This coming weekend we are meeting with the reception venue to do some final finishes. Now that will take a lot off my list!

So here we have something we around here call breakfast brownies. They are super simple to make and the ingredients are easy to come by and they are oh so filling!

Now I made two, hence why there are two packs of cream cheese, two rolls of sausage...you get it.

INGREDIENTS for ONE pan:
2 cans (8 oz each) Pillsbury® refrigerated crescent dinner rolls or 2 cans (8 oz each) Pillsbury® Crescent Recipe Creations® refrigerated seamless dough sheet
1 lb spicy or mild bulk pork sausage ( I used maple breakfast sausage)
1 package (8 oz) cream cheese
2 cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese (8 oz)

In 12-inch skillet, cook sausage over medium heat, stirring frequently, until no longer pink.

Of course I later realized that I needed a bigger pan...oh well! You'll need to drain off any excess grease.

Unroll 1 can of dough into 2 long rectangles. Place in a 13x9-inch (3-quart) glass baking dish; press over bottom and 1/2 inch up sides to form crust. We weren't too worried about being fancy. As long as the bottom is covered and there are no holes you are good to go!

Next, fold in the cubes of cream cheese and let them melt.

Now you can either fold in the cheddar cheese now OR you can spread the cream cheese mixture over the crust and then sprinkle the cheese over. I usually just throw it all in the pan. It's non-stick so it cleans up easily. If it weren't though I would totally go the other route.

Now, only if you want, take a taste of the mixture. It is WONDERFUL! It tastes like some sort of amazing dip! Yum!

Again, I made two. Unroll second can of dough on work surface. Press to form 13x9-inch rectangle; firmly press perforations to seal. Carefully place over cheese.

I made mine the day before and then cooked them in the morning before church.

To bake: Cook in at 375 F for 21 to 26 minutes or until golden brown. Cool for about 15 minutes and then cut into squares.

And enjoy! There are definitely a family favorite.

Until next time...thanks for reading!
