Yesterday morning I was able to make my first trek up to Trader Joe's. The closest one to me is about 30 mins. away but was definitely a cool experience! Checking out new markets and seeing new kinds of food is an awesome experience. I guess it's that little part of me that is a foodie!
There truly is a better taste to food that is fresh. One of the things that I'm most looking forward to is getting a side of beef. If you have never had fresh beef, you need to! Much, much better tasting than the little box of processed stuff!
Anyways, so since I was in a cooking mood I decided to break out a version of one of my favorite sandwiches. I love a good Cuban Sandwich! It definitely has to be up there with a good cheese burger. Not only does the combination taste wonderful the ingredients to make it are ordinary and cheap. The fact is you probably have the stuff to make one in your frig already!
So to take a play on a Cuban and a grilled cheese, I came up with a grilled Cuban sandwich! And they were definitely a hit! This sandwich isn't entirely traditional but the ingredients make a great combo.
You will need turkey and ham lunch meat, mustard, mayo, Swiss cheese, dill pickles, margarine or butter, and bread. I think for next time around a thicker bread would work better. It stands up to the thickness of the sandwich.
I had about 15 sandwiches to put together so I did get a whole lot of pictures! It's what happens when you are feeding 9 people.
So after you've buttered your bread layer up your meat, sauces, pickles, and cheese. And then transfer to the pan and brown on both sides.
This is my sandwich! Not the best photo presentation but it definitely hit the spot! Yummy! I ended up leaving the mayo off of mine. Don't get me wrong I love mayo but the Swiss cheese was enough creaminess for me on the sandwich.
Thanks for reading! I hope you try these out or at least a true Cuban sandwich. This with a side of sweet potato fries scream summer food to me.
That's all for now, I'm off for a walk at the park and then some wedding arms workout!
