The 17 Day Diet

Sounds like a fad, huh? Anyone who promises to get you to perfection in just 17 days has to be out of their mind right? This is what I told myself when my future mother-in-law first introduced me to this diet. There is no way that you can work miracles in just two and a half weeks.

And I was right. Only not in the way people would think. True, 17 days isn't enough time but the diet doesn't last only 17 days. It's about a whole life style change and that is what works.

About a year ago I picked up the book and gave it a read. To me it made sense: three 17 day cycles and a 4th maintenance cycle. The first cycle looked arduous and to be honest, it scared me away from the diet. I don't want to give you my bread and pizza and cookies, I proclaimed! And I put it on the back burner.

Then over Christmas my future mother-in-law started to talk about it and we decided to turn over a new leaf, starting the diet together. I made it through the first two cycles, with cheats along the way. And I received some awesome results: about 15 pounds in 34 days! Eating bread, pizza, and cookies were not worth it and I had the looser jeans to prove it.

However, with life's stress I have fallen off the bandwagon. No, more like crashed, burn, and fallen apart. But as my wedding looms closer, I can't take time off. Now is the time to begin my journey or it will never happen and I will be buying another wedding dress.

The steps of the 17 day diet are simple but the planning and creativity take some serious work. I don't know about you but I HATE being bored with food. I love cooking and I love eating good food. Having been through cycle one once and making a meal plan for the second go around I feel like I am ready to go. My future MIL will be joining me and possibly a friend or two.

Tuesday is the prospective start date. I have searched the internet for different recipes so that I wouldn't have to duplicate any. I figured that this would cut down on the boredom. And the good thing is that I can switch out meals if I need to.

Once or twice a week I will post a recipe with step by step instructions on how to prepare it. During the week most of us are busy so they will be simple and easy to throw together.

Thanks for reading and stay cool!

Over and out.

  1. I honestly didn't mind giving up the bread. It was the wine I missed. I'm looking forward to you sharing your creative side. Your Cauliflower pizza crust recipe has become a staple in our house. Good luck! You can do it!
